Center Of Attention - Wedding Invitations

Proud Member of the Mahoning Valley Wedding Network

Did you know?

Before the printing press was invented in 1447 the job of wedding announcements was done by the town crier as he made his journey announcing the upcoming marriage event to all that would hear it. Once the invites turned to the printed paper they had an illiteracy problem that faced many areas. Because of this problem the written word was not a top priority. The result was that paper wedding invitations would not have been needed for the general public causing paper wedding invitations to remain mostly for more Nobel families.

Wedding Invitation Etiquette Q and As from The Knott

The following are some questions and answers that are summarized form a post on Below all of the information you will find a link to the post.

Q: When do you send out wedding invitations?
A: Six to Eight weeks before the wedding.

Q: When should you make the deadline for RSVPs?
A: Two to Three weeks before the wedding date.

Q: Where do you include information about our wedding website?
A: Your wedding website address should be included on your save-the-dates. If you do not have save-the-dates and want to include it in the formal invitations, include it on an insert.

Q: Can we include our registry information on our wedding invitations or save-the-dates?
A: In one word. No.

Q: We are having an adults-only wedding (no kids). How can we make sure this is clear to our guests?
A: Address your invitations correctly - to each guest by name, not "and guest". If you find that some RSVPs include children, call them and explain it is adults-only and that you hope that they still can attend.

Q: How do we let guests know our dress code?
A: The easiest way to get your point across is to include a dress code in the lower right-hand corner of the invite or reception card; "black tie", "cocktail attire" or "casual attire".

Q: Do we have to invite every quest with a date or a "plus-one"?
A: No, but it is always nice to invite everyone with a guest.

Q: Where do you put the return address on wedding invitations?
A: The return address usually goes on the back flap of the envelope.

Q: If our wedding reception is for immediate family only, is it okay to invite people to the ceremony only?
A: No.
